Project Description
The Linn County Board of Supervisors voted unanimously in May 2017 to name the new Linn County Public Health and Child and Youth Development Services building after Dr. Percy and Lileah Harris. The couple were civil rights pioneers and important community leaders in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. The Harris building is a multi-use 63,000 square foot facility with classrooms, childcare spaces, offices, meeting rooms, clinics, a lab, playground, gymnasium, green space, and two rooftop deck areas. Helping the building meet Leadership in Energy & Environmental Design (LEED) standards, which encourage green and sustainable building practices, are the Bison FSC® Certified (FSC-C013454) 2x2 Ipê Smooth Wood Tiles used to construct the deck areas. The Forest Stewardship Council (FSC), is a third-party entity that promotes responsible management of the world’s forests. FSC certification assures consumers that wood products have positive environmental attributes and are backed by a global system of verification.
